I have spent the first half of the year composing for my next two albums...
The 7th album in my "10 albums in 10 years" project will be released later this year. It is a remix of the music from my collaboration with Melbourne poet Joel McKerrow. It features original compositions with myself on saxophone accompanied by Tasmanian musicians - violist Clare Corban-Banks and her husband Edrick on classical guitar.
I also completed all the composing for my 8th album which will be entitled FLYING.
At the moment I am arranging big band music for two upcoming projects.
The first project is for Kelly Ottaway's Modern Operative ensemble. We will be performing at a tribute to THELONIUS MONK at Live at the Wharf in October 2017. I'm arranging two MONK tunes for the gig.
The second project is for Nick Haywood and his homage to the CHARLIE HADEN LIBERATION ORCHESTRA. We will be performing three concerts at the MOFO FESTIVAL @ MONA in January 2018. I am arranging two tunes for the orchestra. Charlie Haden's daughter Petra (vocals and violin) will be fronting the orchestra for the performances.
In July I recorded the FLYING album project with the Sirius Chamber Ensemble and audio engineer Ross Ahern.
The recording was funded by Arts Tasmania.
The music was composed over a three year period while flying to my job in Sydney each week.
The album will be released in 2018 and will be the 8th album in my "10 albums in 10 years" project.
